employers are demanding a minimum of one years relevant work experience in addition to good GCSE passes - an impossibility if you're just 16 years old. The days of apprenticeships and office juniors would appear to be a thing of the past.

I am sure some teenagers are being denied interesting jobs, however part of the problem is expectation. Many School/University leavers seem to believe that they can join a company on Monday & be promoted to an interesting senior role by Friday - even though they consistently arrived late, frequently made personal phone calls and made a mess of half the tasks given them. A bit more realism in the classroom might help to disabuse them of the 'MD by 22yrs old' notion.
