I know someone in this line of work and yes, they are very well paid.
My understanding is that most newsreaders with the BBC are actually self-employed so I imagine that work clothes would be tax-deductable?
However, there is a serious matter underlying- the different expectations of male & female workers. It's another form of the discriminatory attitudes which older female TV presenters have complained of for the last few years. There are plenty of older "craggy" men delivering our news. These men could wear the same suit every day with a different tie & no-one would notice or care (except those geeky types who analyse news delivery online). If a woman were to do the same thing, it would be commented upon endlessly, the "circle of shame" so loved by magazines & tabloids would appear regularly and she would be dismissed as being of worth.
We know this because it already happens. TV channels don't need to have a written policy stating that women must wear a different otufit every day; the expectations are communicated in many, far more subtle ways.
Ms. Hill is definitely extremely well-paid and I don't find it especially easy to sympathise or empathise with her complaint. That isn't a reason to ignore the (let's not forget) potentially unlawful discrimination that she faces just because she is a woman who wants to prepare, interpret & present the news. If we do ignore it, we're all complicit.
Personally I would purchase a couple of business suits as the male presenters have, she probably already has a variety of blouses and I would wear a different colour scarf each day.

Ms Hill
You earn well above the national average wage. Try shopping in high street shops instead of boutiques and your pound will go further.
