Working Time (Amendment) Regulations 2007 allow that the additonal entitlement of 1.6 weeks ( 8 days ) can be carried over into the subsequent leave year.
The Work and Families Act 2006 clearly states the length of holiday entitlement which was increased April 1 2009 to 5.6 weeks (20 days statutory holiday and 8 days public holidays) for full time workers. As an Act this is a legal requirement not an option.
Holidays are an entitlement not a perk. I suggest you take a look at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Timeoffandholidays/DG_10029788.
You could also check out the Citizens Advice Bureau or the Pay and Work Rights Helpline

I assume you don't have a union to act on your behalf.
hi i wonder if any of you guys/gals can help. our staff are being refused holiday on the basis of there is to many people off and we do not have enough cover. they are also being told they will lose all remaining holiday with no pay.
is this a correct proceadure? because i think if the company are refusing to let them take thier holiday and that they will lose all remaining holiday with no pay or be allowed to carry them over. then the company should really pay them what holidays they are owed as it is not the employees fault that others have booked holidays in front of them.
