I said to a friend of mine that I don't wholly agree with the equal pay legislation, which resulted in her calling me a 'typical bloke'.
Later on she realised I am not typical, apologised and asked me what I meant.
There is a person she works with that has been discriminated (and bullied) against because he is in the process of gender surgery, whereby he will become she.
The problem with Gender specific legislation means that you MUST be a man or a woman, if you are one then you might not be eligible to claim discrimination, if you are the other then you can, but as this shows, you probably wont get far.
Throw into the mix the fact that you are changing from one to another makes the headless chickens run around even more.
Throw into the mix other things, such as disability, or race then you find that you have to tick boxes to get points to be reviewed to go any further with any discrimination.
It should be easy, the job should have pay conditions attached to it, in other words if the job pays £10 per hour thats what the person doing the job gets.
Gender/race/disability/size/ or ANY discrimination should be addressed after that fact, and not because of it.
What I mean is, if a company employs 50 qualified mechanics, and they are all male, yet records show (and records should be checked) that 25% of the applicants were female then there is something wrong, you would expect at least 15% (I would say 25% actually) of the employees would be female.
The same goes for anyone that has a disability, or comes from a specific ethnic background, or is having gender surgery.
As those who maybe bisexual are in the headlines perhaps it's time for women to claim sexual discrimination as you should have another 50% or whateveer for the male part because that is all they're worth while the female part multi-tasks and is twice as productive ?
Not a ploy the guys could use cause no one is gonna believe our other cromosones are any more productive and even if they were the male one's would handicap the female ones anyway ....... ho hum gotto be some compensation for being male as we are never but never right !

You've kinda hit a point there Nigel.

People should not be treated unfairly.
