Diversity, don't know the meaning of the word,

My Mum always told me it was impolite in polite society to discuss religion, polotics, sex and particularly anyones parentage let alone drawing attention to disability yet these are the very questions that appear on most forms for diversity monitoring.

As everyone is different why do they not monitor other common or minority attributes from appearance to personality as risk or protective factors in associated with performing particular job profiles ?

Discrimination is not limited to sex, polotics, religion or parentage and disabillity or ability is not limited by personality, physicality or appearance so what is this diversity stuff really all about ?

Tokenism and easy targets just do not bridge the gap between profession ideologies and personal ideologies that remain judgemental simply because we are designed for survival which dictates we seek simalarities to any of us in any community to avoid "approval deprivation" from chosen or adopted work/life tribe.........

Tolerance as part of stress response comes before adaptation and after fight/flight response but unfortunately first impressions are all you are gonna get at interveiw and without a chance to get to know the person the stress of anticipating anxiety will tend to drive decission making process - NO

Nicholas, you must remember that this motion is coming from a labour politician!! they will just change the laws of the land to accommodate their will, and their collegues in europe who are on the same gravy train will just say its an internal matter.

As for all women shorlists, do you not remember the 'Blair Babes'? 20odd women elected to government through such lists at the expense of more able and experienced prospective candidates, and just for the gimmick of cornering the women votes, much to the detriment of the electorate and freedom of choice. However, a recent editorial showed the majority of these women had now subsequently lost their seats. But 4 years have been wasted whilst they held office.

The best person for the job is how it should be but with this proposal, if you are an able bodied male and white: forget it!

Surely if the law in the UK is changed to allow all women shortlists this will fall foul of EU sex and gender equality legislation and will therefore be null and void before it gets off the ground. Is this not so?

More targets, more blather, more smoke and more mirrors. Look what this government has done to education and just wonder what they are up to here; it must and can only be looking for more votes.
