Worry may be an inappropriate coping strategy to the stressor of facing another week in 'captivity' absorbing the stings and slights of a coercive even toxic workplace where the employee feels helpless to change the insidious negative culture, screen fatigue and underlying 'approval deprivation'.
Worry may be a reasonable adaption to dealing with increasing insecurity and performance anxiety that along with fatigue would impair performance over time but, telling the employee that 'it is all in your mind' and all YOU need to do is 'modify your mind-set' won't change the workplace environment.
However, if the employees, with their all new positive mind-set, were to develop greater "positive regard" for themselves overcome their fears and take responsibility for their well-being there would be just a few employers who might find themselves being issued an ASBO by their emloyees !!!!
Seam to remember someone saying 'prevention is better than cure' and perhaps with employees having "fewer hurdles" to get over in stress claims the threat of litigation will be the motivation for get over their feedback blindness and do something about actually reducing the collateral damage to their biggest asset - human resources ?
