I have always seen the status of my mental health, as an image in my mind. If anyone has seen the film ‘12 Monkeys’ with Bruce Willis, and can recall the image on the DVD cover, that’s what I see (Google it if not!). I am the monkey in the middle and there are all the monkeys around the outside of me - except, in my head, their tails are all linked. They are still part of me. This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s theme is physical activity and exercise. This is something we are often told we should do, to keep fit and keep our bodies in good working order but activity, of almost any kind, can also enhance happiness and our quality of life and thus reduce mental illness.
