Are you sure it was AA and wasn't a local authority and in particular LEA as sounds like an awfully familiar strategy - isolatiion, marginalise and treat like a mushroom ! In a survey of 3,000 workers by healthcare cash plan provider, Medicash, 20% of men admitted to taking two sick days in the past month because of stress.
