Area of expertise

Employment law

Biography

Michael Ryley joined Pinsent Masons as a Partner in January 1998. He heads the firm’s Employment Group and is based in the London office. Save for a period spent working in Tokyo, Michael has spent his entire career to date in the City of London, advising a wide range of clients on all aspects of employment law and human resources strategy. Although his practice includes advice in contentious matters, Michael spends the bulk of his time advising on the employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, outsourcings, PFI schemes and facilities management contracts. As such he is recognised as an expert on TUPE and is well known as a writer on the employment law issues which arise in such projects. His extensive bibliography includes "Employment Law Aspects of Mergers and Acquisitions – A Practical Guide", "Employment Law for the Construction Industry" and many articles for professional journals. He is a Contributing Editor of the CIPD/Jordans Employment Law Service, for which he writes the TUPE section. He is on the Editorial Board of Facilities Management Legal Update and a member of the CBI’s Employee Relations Panel.
