Biography
Martin Newlan is the Deputy Principal and Bursar of Cumberland Lodge. He trained as an accountant, and for over thirty years was involved in engineering, running plastics businesses in the automotive, medical device, and pharmaceutical packaging sectors. An unplanned change of direction in 2001 found him employing his business and facilities management skills looking after a thriving charity in a stately home in a truly glorious setting. Cumberland Lodge is a residential conference centre based in a listed 17th Century royal house in the middle of Windsor Great Park. Since 1947 the conference centre has been the home of a Christian educational charity, also called Cumberland Lodge, with a mission to encourage university students to consider wider moral, ethical, and spiritual matters than their degree courses permit. The funding for that comes mostly from providing conference facilities to professional users.
