Derbyshire County Council’s decision to allow the extension and continued use of a landfill site for waste disposal has been upheld despite a legal challenge. The planning permission for the site was challenged on the grounds that it was not the best environmental option and goes against the intentions of the Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994 (which discourage the use of landfill sites for waste disposal).
