Business Secretary John Hutton has rejected calls for the Gangmasters Act to be extended to protect vulnerable temporary workers on building sites.
Hutton said the revamped regulations on Construction, Design and Management (CDM) which came into force in April 2007 were a better tool to deal with the abuse of casual labourers within the industry.
