Whilst fire doors may be thought of as a safety measure requiring little maintenance, an hotelier in Blackpool was fined more than £6,000 recently after fire safety officers found defective fire doors (as well as broken fire alarms, defective fire-fighting equipment and holes in the ceiling) on a routine inspection. But what exactly makes a fire door defective, and what can be done to make sure the fire doors in your workplace are up to scratch?
