Figures released by the Office of National Statistics yesterday suggest that the average number of hours worked is falling, substantiating views expressed by the TUC in November that “the trend in the UK is now towards a slow decline in long hours working”.
The Labour Market Statistics – January 2007 – reveal that the average hours worked fell to 31.9 in the three months to the end of November 2006, which compares to an average of 33.2 hours in 1992.
