Construction companies have been warned of the importance of ensuring that correct systems of work are adopted in order to protect employees working in trenches, following a criminal prosecution brought by HSE.
The prosecution relates to an incident in which two employees of Morgan Utilities Limited were observed by an HSE inspector working in an unsupported excavation, approximately two metres deep in Liverpool City Centre in October 2005.
