From Friday (1 December), under gangmaster legislation, it will be an offence to use an unlicensed labour provider operating in the agriculture and food industries.
As Workplace Law previously reported, from 1 October 2006 all gangmasters in agriculture and food processing have had to be licensed by law. Gangmasters who continue to trade without a licence are acting illegally and face potential penalties of up to ten years imprisonment and an unlimited fine.
