London mayor Ken Livingstone has warned that plans to merge the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) into a single equality body could undermine the fight against racism.
Under the government's Equality Bill, the CRE is one of several organisations which would become part of a new Commission for Equalities and Human Rights (CEHR).
Under the proposed legislation, a new body governing disability, gay and lesbian rights, gender equality and human rights will be established.
