Positive action takes into account any specific disadvantages suffered by an individual or a particular group of people. Its purpose is to equip them with the skills they need to compete equally with others. Positive action is not be confused with positive discrimination,which involves positively favouring disadvantaged groups. Positive action does not permit selection irrespective of merit.
