The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 came into force on 2 July
1999 and aims to protect employees who report alleged malpractice.
Although dubbed the 'Whistleblower Act' its primary intention is to
direct disclosures through relevant channels.
There are six categories of subject matter contained in the Act
and six procedures for disclosing information. The Act offers
protection to workers in limited circumstances, if the disclosure is
