The scope of the law on disability discrimination at work has been widened by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, which received Royal Assent on 7 April and which is due to come into force later in the year.
Significant new provisions – regarded by campaigners as lacking from the preceding 1995 Act – relate to the protection of the mentally ill and those suffering from progressive illnesses.
