With effect from 1 June 1999 an employee can bring a claim for unfair dismissal if he has been continuously employed for a period of not less than one year ending with the effective date of termination.Where an employee is dismissed without notice, section 97(1) (b) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 provides that his effective date of termination is the date on which the termination takes effect.
