Employment Appeal Tribunal: Judge McMullen, Mr J Mallender and Ms G Mills: 1 November 2004
The claimant told his employers that he might need leave on the following day because his partner had to attend a meeting and he had to look after their young child. He did not explain that alternative arrangements he had made had fallen through. That night he confirmed to his employers that there was no one to look after his child the next day. He did not attend work and was subsequently disciplined.
