The Financial Times reported last week that unfair dismissal and redundancy rights might be handed to workers aged over 65. At the moment, employees' entitlement to redundancy pay and age-related unfair dismissal awards ends when the employee reaches 65.
This follows the announcement back in December 2004 that employers will be able to set a default retirement age of 65 under forthcoming age discrimination legislation, but that employees will have the 'right to request' to work longer.
