On the International day of Disabled People (today), the Government has calculated that the annual spending power of the ten million people covered by the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) adds up to £80bn. Furthermore, changes next year will extend the DDA to cover another 175,000 people.
The Government hopes that this will give employers a powerful business reason to comply with the DDA. Minister for disabled people Maria Eagle said:
