New HSE statistics show an increase in the number of reported workplace injuries in 2003/04, and a decline in new cases of work-related ill health.
There were 235 fatal injuries to workers in 2003/04, an increase of 4% on the 2002/03 figure of 227. Around half occurred in two industries: (1) construction and (2) agriculture, forestry and fishing.
