The HSE has issued new guidance, aimed at employers and managers across the UK, offering a practical step-by-step approach to managing sickness absence and getting people back to work quickly.

Long-term sickness absence, defined as four weeks or more, is a significant burden to employers in the private and public sectors and leads to mounting sick pay, recruitment costs and high workloads for colleagues.
