A firefighter drowned because Greater Manchester Fire Service failed to assess the risks of water rescues, the BBC reports.
According to the online news service, Bolton Crown Court heard that sub-officer Paul Metcalf died when he tried to save a student from a lake in Bury, Greater Manchester. Greater Manchester Fire Service is said to have failed over a "lenghty period of time" to address the risks associated with water rescues.
