The HSE has warned of the need for effective risk assessments for all persons involved in the operation of cranes, following the prosecution of a Felixstowe port for failures to ensure the safety of workers, which resulted in the death of 51-year-old Dennis Burman. [Previously reported by Workplace Law on 10 September 2004 see Port operator fined £250,000 after employee crushed to death].
HSE inspector David Gregory, who investigated the death, said:
