On 4 June, Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt launched a consultation document addressing directors' contracts, performance, and severance payments and the linkage between them.
Although the accompanying press release suggests that the Government's view is that individual directors' pay is a matter for companies and their shareholders, the consultation document, as well as looking at best practice reform options, also addresses possible legislative reform.
