British business continues hugely to rely on contractors and temporary workers as an efficient, cost-effective and relatively risk-free way of resourcing specialist and/or short-term projects. There are also many signs now that the public sector's use of contractors and temporary workers is on the increase directly (NHS/education) and indirectly (consortia supplying IT services to the NHS/suppliers carrying out public sector infrastructure projects under PFI).
