The Land Registry has proposed in its Consultation Paper, published on 27
August 2002, that from 13 October 2003 the public will have the right to
inspect and copy most documents retained by the Registry which hitherto have
not been open to public scrutiny including, most notably, mortgages and
leases.
In addition, from October 2003 all leases with a term of at least 7 years
must be registered when created, assigned or charged.
