Environment Agency CEO Barbara Young, speaking at the Agency's annual conference, has called for the landfill tax to be raised so that more money can be put into dealing with the UK's growing waste management problem, and to encourage employers to look for alternative methods of waste disposal.
Under current arrangements, the landfil tax is increasing at a rate of £1 per tonne each year, so that by 2004 the standard rate of landfill tax will be at £15 per tonne.
