£1bn Compensation Paid to Miners by Government

£1bn has now been paid out under the miners' health compensation schemes, according to the Government. The schemes - which compensate miners for damage done to their health from working in the coal industry - are the largest compensation schemes for industrial disease anywhere in the world.
