A shopworker has made history by winning compensation under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, after being dismissed in 1999 for refusing to work on Sundays. The case - reported by the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) - could have big implications for retailers.
Paul Charnetski had worked for the supermarket chain since 1988, and claimed protected status under the Sunday Trading Act. This gives any shopworker employed before 1994 legal protection under the Act.
