Martins - the newsagents - has become the first employer to be successfully prosecuted for breaching the 48-hour week rule under the Working Time Regulations, according to a BBC report.
Maureen Lumbard, who is employed in a shop in Norfolk, worked an average of 71 hours a week to cover for absences and sickness. She then complained to Breckland Council, who prosecuted Martins (part of the Forbuoys chain).
