According to press reports, engineering firm McLean and Gibson has been fined £30,000 after Thomas Henderson was crushed to death at work in July 2000. Mr Henderson was crushed by a 300Kg drum that was hanging from frayed fibre.
This follows the £100,000 fine imposed on Smurfit UK Ltd for another paper mill death that happened in January 2000. In that case, the victim was cleaning a paper machine that had been left on.
