A Christian woman has been the second to leave the post of registrar at Islington Council over refusing to perform same-sex civil partnerships because of religious beliefs.

Theresa Davies says that in June 2006 she was off work for four months on sick leave with stress after she told her managers that her religion prevented her from carrying out same-sex marriages. On her return, she claims she was told she would be demoted to the role of receptionist or could face dismissal.
