Newsreader Selina Scott accepted £250,000 and an apology from Channel Five in her ageism claim, rather than go to a tribunal, so she could be with her dying father.
Scott had suggested she wanted to highlight ageism against women in television, but is believed to have changed her mind after her father's health deteriorated.
Charles Scott, 81, died after a stroke on Christmas Eve, with his daughter and other family members at his bedside.
