Tax incentives to tackle sickness absence rejected

The Government has rejected the possibility of offering employers tax incentives to tackle sickness absence, stating that it would be unfeasible in the current economic climate.

Speaking at a debate held by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), Work and Pensions Minister Lord McKenzie said that now was not the time to be offering such incentives to get sick employees back to work and that the Government "couldn't honestly hold out on a raft of tax incentives".
