Although the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 (DDA) has been in place for some time and the various stages of introduction have provided for gradual change to the built environment, there has always been a need to consider health and safety issues and in particular fire safety and evacuation provision. Unfortunately, guidance on the subject has been slow to keep pace with the need for all buildings to become accessible.
