The Regulations impose requirements in respect of the health, safety and welfare of the persons in a workplace. They do not apply to construction sites, temporary work sites and certain agricultural undertakings. They place requirements upon an employer and others in control of a workplace in relation to maintenance, ventilation, indoor temperature, lighting, cleanliness, room dimensions, the suitability of workstations, the condition of floors and pedestrian routes, together with providing toilet facilities, suitable washing facilities, supply of drinking water, the provision of suitable facilities for rest and to eat meals, as well as specifying the need to provide accommodation for the storage of outdoor clothing etc.
