Scottish Water has said it will reconsider how it responds to out-of-hours water supply problems after two of its staff were attacked.
The pair fended off two men wielding machetes while working in Port Glasgow.
The workers were on an excavation site in Southfield Avenue at 2120 BST on Friday when they were attacked by the men who brandished an 18-inch blade.
As they hacked into the van door and broke the window, a worker fought them off with a six-foot valve key.
