Two companies have been fined more than £30,000, after a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 led to a worker losing two finger tips in a paper recycling plant in Greenwich.
In July 2004, James Adams and another engineer from RCP Macpress (UK) Ltd were repairing a large paper recycling machine, known as a shredder, at SCA Recycling UK Ltd’s Greenwich premises. The fork of a forklift truck had been loaded into the machine unintentionally and damaged the machine.
