Employers are used to requiring prospective employees to provide various documents in order to verify matters such as their qualifications, previous employment history and whether they are entitled to work in the UK. The precise checks needed will largely vary from employer to employer and from post to post.
From today (29 February 2008), the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 will come into force, setting a stricter regime for employing overseas workers.
