The House of Commons has voted 147 to 11 in favour of a private member's bill designed to give temps and agency workers the same rights as comparable perms from day one of their assignment.
It is important to note that this Bill does not have Government support and that the Conservatives, who would normally have voted against this sort of measure, appear to have abstained at this first reading in order to ensure the Government suffered a defeat at the hands of its backbenchers.
