Waste firm to improve fire safety following explosion

A Preston waste management firm has been forced to improve its fire safety, eight months after an explosion on its site.

Veolia Environmental Services, based on the Red Scar Industrial Estate, Longridge Road, Ribbleton, has been served with three enforcement notices by fire officials in Lancashire following the incident in July last year.

The explosion led to roads being gridlocked, nearby schools being closed and fears over a risk to human health across Preston.
