The UK age discrimination regulations contain a special procedure allowing employers to lawfully retire employees. But this doesn’t apply to other categories of individual, such as partners, contract workers or office holders.
Forcing these types of people to retire will be direct age discrimination unless the retirement policy can be objectively justified. This is very difficult to do.
