Businesses have attacked a plan to impose fines that could run into hundreds of millions of pounds for breaches of a new corporate manslaughter act and existing health-and-safety laws.
The CBI, the business lobby group, said many of its members felt “considerable concern” over proposals to fine companies up to a 10th of their global turnover for offences under the manslaughter law passed this year.
