Holiday baggage: the issue of rolled up holiday pay

The 1993 EU Working Time Directive designed to allow all workers a minimum of four weeks' paid holiday, after an initial debate as to whether or not it should apply to the UK, has been incorporated into domestic law since 1998.

Indeed the UK has so embraced the Directive that workers are now are entitled to 4.8 weeks' leave each year, which will increase to 5.6 weeks in April 2009.
