The Guide to Business Continuity 2007 is one of the latest downloadable publications from Workplace Law Publishing. Written by leading authority on the subject, Peter Power, this essential guide provides a framework for business managers to ensure that their organisation has an action plan in place in the event of an emergency situation arising.

Business continuity took a step forward with the publication of the British Standard Institute’s BS 25999-1:2006 Code of practice for business continuity management in November 2006.

The new formal standard from the BSI replaces the PAS 56 specification, and will be in two parts. The first part, BS 25999-1:2006 Code of practice for business continuity management, which replaces PAS 56, has now been published. The second part, BS 25999-2:2007 Specification for business continuity management, will specify the process for achieving certification that business continuity capability is appropriate to the size and complexity of an organization.

BS 25999-1:2006 covers:

  • the BCM system;
  • understanding the organization;
  • BCM strategies;
  • developing and implementing a BCM response;
  • building and embedding a BCM culture; and
  • exercising, maintenance, audit and self-assessment of the BCM culture.

Part two of the BS 25999 series should be available early in 2007. This second part will specify the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a documented business BCM system within the context of an organization’s overall business risks. It will also specify the requirements for the implementation of business continuity controls customized to the needs of individual organizations.

This new guide is designed to bring you up to date with these new changes and will help you considered all the relevant factors in continuity planning.
